New Post!

Well I have been a bit lacking in the posting department since I came back from Laos. It is not inertia, rather collective business!.

I shall make it a 2012 resolution to get back on track with this and my personal typography projects which ceased as soon as I imposed a one a month rule earlier in the year. I shall learn from that!.

Here is a quick, fun poster I did in the week:

Local Directory 2011

.
I have recently finished the 2011 edition (issue 3) of the Archway Local Business Directory
It is a 24 page directory with local discount vouchers and information. Finished with a UV spot on the front, I was again tasked with creating everything from scratch. I designed all but 2 of the adverts inside and all of the info graphics. Here is the cover, I will post the project in my website www.jamiesmithdesign.com soon

Silver Bullet New Year's Eve Flyer

A pretty mad one!, but suits their celebrations I guess! The first proof was a more conservative effort:

8 Faces #4

Issue #4 of this great magazine is available for pre-order!. Be quick though, as there are only 2000 available.

a Jessica Hische-illustrated cover, printed on gold stock, white ink and foil blocking make this issue look like it's going to be a beautiful one. Each issue asks 'what 8 typefaces could you not live without?'

Christmas Flyer...

While I am on Christmas theme...here is another one I did today. All drawn with Wacom in Illustrator. That's it now - on Holiday for a few weeks, I'm sure my millions of readers will be sad : D!!

Christmas Bauble design and Flyer

This is a flyer that I am in the process of designing for the Holloway Road area's Nag's Head Town Centre. The Christmas Bauble was done in Illustrator using the revolve and map art tool. First I used the logo and then drew the patterns around which make up the art to map. The sparkly background is actually a diffuse glow with blending mode which gives the bauble nice depth.
Then it was over to photoshop to blur, add backgrounds and photos...then ID.
Oh yeah, I know that the date is wrong..it is based on last years and I am awaiting further copy!

Flyer Design

Today I began working on a flyer for improving your breathing. It was nice to be able to do a bit of freestyle drawing for this one. It is part of the same set as: http://tinyurl.com/6ycdemb
I was given compete freedom to explore this concept without any brief per se.

Jazz Workshop Flyer Design

Here is a flyer/ poster I designed today. You may also have noticed that I have changed the layout of my blog. I'm not sure if it will stay like this...but it does seem easier to look through posts. There haven't been many posts lately due to a few bigger projects. Will post some new stuff after our holiday!

Promo Poster for Beauty Salon

Been a while since I posted, been getting excited about our holiday to Laos and Thailand! Here is an 'October - Halloween' inspired poster for a local beauty salon. I used a similar technique (although a quicker, shortened one) as I did on a typography project: http://tinyurl.com/6zpe4b9

E.Mono Sign

A cafe recently closed down on Kentish Town Road, and during renovations for the new shop, this wonderful sign has been uncovered. I popped down after work in the pissing rain, and pulled over on my Vespa to get this shot. I really hope it is preserved in some way, it must be pretty old.

1950's Biscuit Tin

Just been down to the North London Vintage Market and picked up this little beauty. It was the wonderful script typography that attracted us, which apparently as a lowercase script is quite rare in the 50's Biscuit tin circle! : ) Reminded me of The Melodees Promo CD that I have just finished letterpressing: Melodees

Vintage Ephemera

Last weekend, we were in West Sussex and went to my favourite place to pick up vintage ephemera and the like. Also managed to pick up a really early wooden table-top trimmer (for 50p), to go with the new Adana 8x5 letterpress!

Restaurant Promotional Flyer

Having done all of the identity and marketing for Harman, including Menu, Wine List and Cocktail list, they wanted something as a mail-out that would stand out amongst the plethora of restaurant promotional items in London. I decided that pictures were not always necessary and that a typography piece, in the shape of a plate would engage the viewer - getting across the vital information, without formal lists or bullet points. The map on the back lists all of the bus routes and mimics the style of the front.

The Melodees Promo CD Insert

I've been working on a promo CD for a band called the Melodees. You may remember I posted a cover a while ago. This is the promo version. The covers are letterpressed onto recycled card sleeved and I am going to hand number them with an Automated Numbering Machine from the 50's - will post pics soon!
